The Refuge You Crave for Fathers and Partners
Congratulations, you are going to be a father! Attending a childbirth class is probably not high on your priority list. However, you know that labor is fast approaching and you want to be prepared so you can support your love. I can help you do both.
The moment a child is born, the father is also born. He never existed before. The man existed, but the father, never. A father is something absolutely new.

Often a father's journey to parenthood is overlooked because the mom is doing all the "work". Traditional childbirth classes leave little room for fathers to explore their own thoughts and feelings about one of the most transforming experiences of your life. Some childbirth classes expect the dad or partner to be the "coach" for labor. This title can be very misleading as my husband pointed out as we were preparing for the birth of our first baby. He looked at me and said, "Let me get this straight... I have never given birth before, nor will I ever give birth in the future, and YOU are relying on ME to coach you through this?!" What pressure to put on a fella! Let me let you in on a little secret, men. We women love you for who you are and we mostly just want you to BE there. Be present with us as we go through our journey to motherhood.
Most fathers are more than willing to support their wives and partners in whatever way they can, yet they don't know what to expect or what to do. Often, moms-to-be don't know what to ask for, either. My classes will give you tips and tools to help bring some comfort to your partner while she labors away. And, you will be taught how to be present with her. What does it mean to BE with her, which is what she truly needs. The rest will fall into place, I promise. You will know when to rub her feet, when to squeeze her hips, when to offer her words of encouragement, and when to let her be, simply because you love and support her.

Meggan, was a doula for us. After we practiced these things together in class, they helped so much. We were in the same mental place and it was so wonderful with all her help! ~Michael
